Sacred Hearts, Regardless of What our Faith is or isn’t, We are Together in This.

sacred heart

Sacred Hearts, are we-

Our hearts beat in silent unison with a distant choir,

in rhythm with the owl's voice, the soaring of butterfly wings, the turtle's crawl to sea,

With clapping thunder, volcanic eruptions, and the tiger chasing his tail.

What a seamless fusion the maestro has created

As we long to be in tune with the sound of life,

Resonating outside the city walls, through the valley, and floating along the river,

Blending as one towards the final note of love, a harmony of compassion.

Regardless of what our faith is or isn't, we are together in this.

An eye opener read in my daily Advent prayer book – this quote is what I needed to hear trying to cope with all that is happening — I found this a humbling message and hope it also brings you solace…
“The way of our Savior will lead to the annihilation of all our spiritual attachments… By spiritual attachments, I mean the demand for ‘only’ the sweetness we sense at times in the presence of God. If that is all we want, then we will never grow strong enough to walk the true and perfect path, on which God will lead us through times of complete dryness of spirit, and through distasteful trials that seem to overwhelm…
Again and again, your spirit will want to turn and flee from these, its most terrible and frightening enemies. But the spirit that would grow stronger will let go and deny its own demand for sweetness and comfort. I will go so far as to say that we must turn from “spiritual gluttony”…
Do we understand that there are only two paths we must choose between? One is to follow Christ through all thorns and learn all that it means to deny ourselves and seek God, which will lead us through the death of our old nature and into the light of resurrection life. The other path is to seek the fulfillment of ourselves in God – that is, to seek only the blessings and refreshment of god, but not seek God for himself. This type of spirituality is the enemy of the cross of Christ…
When we want God above all, we are willing – as Christ was willing – to follow in spirit, even in the most dry and dark and painful of times. This is the love of God…”
This excerpt, as the Advent books says, is from, St. John of the Cross – Ascent of Mount Carmel: Book 2, Chapter 7

  4. Thank you, Barbara. St. John of the Cross is a powerful read.

Dear Corey, I don’t often post a comment here, but I do read your posts daily. Your poetic assessment of our times lately, have left me in awe. In an art class I took 2 years ago we were asked to paint ourselves. What came from me, was a Rose, a Womb, and My Sacred Heart. The Roisin Dubh, (Ireland), my five children, and my Catholic heritage. Although I don’t consider myself a follower of that faith, it clings to me always. Your words today contain the essense of faith to me, and you made it so clear. The heartbeat of all the universe. Yes, we are all together in this. Thank you, and I wish you and your wonderful family a wonderful Holiday Season.
