The Honda 90 Ride. Part One

Another_lin_eup

Riders are you ready for the annual Honda 90 ride? Where grown men ride vintage 90s on the back roads, to the coast of northern California. Every year, and for the last nineteen years, my Father, my four brothers, plus any male cousin over 21, ride as if they stole their bikes, for the sake of fun. Brotherhood, cussin’, beer, and the sheer joy of tasting dirt are part of the lore that go with this wildly hilarious and physically exhausting journey.

You don’t need to dress up for the ride, most don’t…but the few who do, set the mood for a sentimental journey of male bonding. Who said this ride was about being tough? I think it is about the clothes. My brother Marty would make Coco Chanel turn in her grave for wearing the perfect little black short-shorts, with black boots. Oh baby! You really know how to kick up the dust!

Photo: Up close and personal…Check out his high top, black, ridin’ boots. Aren’t his legs sexy too? Gee, add a little lace and I would be envious of his socks!

Of course some of the riders just stand there and shake their heads when they see the likes of Marty and his stylin’ boots. My brother Mathew is wearing a wedding ring, and a snazzy buckle, his outfit is all about the buckle, don’t you agree?

Mohawk

You gotta love a man who would shave his head in a mo-hawk just to get his cousins to laugh. Thank God for helmets. Cousin Slick (up above,) even shaved his chinny chin chin into a swinging style.

Trophies

In fairness, these crazy guys who dress-up, shave their heads like goof balls, and ride little machines where nobody in their right mind woulod… are mighty fine riders. They do know a thing or two about riding motorcycles. In fact they have enough trophies between them to open up their own trophy store. "Buy one get five for free," could be their sale slogan.

missed my visits, but it’s been a crazy spring & summer!
as always, i love reading your blog! always brings a smile to my face. my dh would get along great with your brothers & cousin…just not too long ago, the dh came into my studio & said, “how do i look?”…he had given himself a mowhawk (like your cousin!) & he said he wanted to give the guys at the job site a huge laugh. well he did alright & did he get some laughs. as he promised, he shaved the mowhawk off & left a 1/4 inch all around his head…he’s crazy, but i still love the guy, lol!
have a great rest of the summer! hugs & love, mary ann

Don’t they have matching logo tees – why do I remember that from last year? If not they should! ha! What a group, love the hair and the boots with shorts…all original!
    XOXO

  29. Oh my gosh! Honda 90s!!!! We had so many of those growing up! I used to ride on the back while my brother drove…and have many scars to prove it. Can’t tell you how many times I burned my leg on the exhaust pipes!

  30. Wow!!! all those trophies and so much fun.
I love how men throw caution to the winds and don’t worry about the “Fashion Police” wonderful freedom.

    ๐Ÿ™‚ Lidy

  43. Imagine my astonishment when Steve walked in the house with that Mo-hawk!! Love ya corey!

  44. Aw, what fun! Your family has such a joie de vivre…I mean, a love for Life (you are, afterall, in California now). Look at those black socks and the shiny black boots! I’m not sure if they are stylin’ or whether there should have been an intervention before the race. I’m sure Marty appreciated your lace suggestion. And that mohawk! Oh come on, it’s pretty cool. Wonder if Sacha will be requesting a California Slick Do as a reminder of his American heritage? What do you think FH would think of that sight at the airport?
Now that wall of trophies is beyond COOL, Corey. Your family rocks!

  45. Wow, I learned to drive a motorcycle on a Honda 90! I wish I had one now (the ladies’ step-through model, please!).

  46. I learned to drive by riding my friend Dixie’s Honda 90 through the woods near her house when we were 14…(sigh)…good times. ๐Ÿ™‚
