Born in a Manger

After telling Chelsea, (who was four at the time,) the story of Jesus, Mary and Joseph…of their long travel, the ride on the donkey…and when they arrived there was no room in the Inn…Jesus was born in a manger.

She asked me with a surprised look on her face:

"Didn’t they know to make reservations?"

photo: My Grandfather’s barn that once stood tall, that still evokes deep memories in my Father. The frame, made from the barn’s planks by my cousin.

  14. That is a very funny story 🙂 I love the things kids come out with.

  15. I listened to a group of kids listing the ten commandments and the youngest one in the group raised her hand and said”thou shalt not jump on the bed, daddy said so”!! Kids have such a pure honesty. I love old structures like this. They exude memories from each gray, twisted plank.

  32. Beautiful barn in its last sighs. Merry Christmas to you. It’s getting dark here, but I stole in here to read your post.

  33. Merry Christmas!

  34. this weathered barn reminds me of our two-sided barn in auburn… the prior owners had used the lumber from two the sides facing away from the road as firewood… so it was mainly a frame with a facade. the story of mary and joseph making do with what was available has always been a comfort to me somehow. life is simple. all you need is love. anyone with you in their life has plenty of that. cheers, dear one!

  35. I love that photo — such history and character shining through the rough wood. Joyeux Noel a ma chere amie Corey et a ta famille aussi!

  38. If Jesus was born today, that’s what a modern day Inn-keeper would say, “Sorry we are fully booked, didn’t you know to make reservations?” 🙂
    LOL, Chelsea is wonderful.

  39. Hee! Chelsea is such a smartypants!

  40. I love the cute story and the barn. What treasures!!
